The Khanty-Mansyisk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra
About 1% of the population of Russia lives in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra (KhMAO-Ugra). However, the region produces over 25% of the Gross National Product. Over 6% of the world's oil, and over 56% of Russian oil, is obtained from here. In Russia, KhMAO-Ugra ranks first in terms of industrial output, oil production, and electric power generation volumes, and second in gas production. Due to the large-scale development of natural resources, the Okrug ranks second in Russia after Moscow in volumes of taxes and duties paid into the budget of Russia. In 2008, the Okrug has paid 1.4 trillion rubles into the Russian budget. The Okrug's administrative centre, Khanty-Mansiysk, is 1,928 km away from Moscow, 3 hours flight time.
