SVERDLOVSK REGION.

The VSMPO-Avisma Corporation, OJSC, will become a participant of the program aimed at the commercial start-up of manufacturing of the new generation of Silvercrest aircraft engines. This announcement was made after the representatives of Belgium-based Techspace Aero, a member of the Safran Group, visited the Sverdlovsk Region.

Techspace Aero manufactures low-pressure compressors that are used as components of the engine front. The Silvercrest engine thrust will reach 3,600-5,000 kilogram-force; the specific fuel consumption will be decreased by 15% as compared to the existing engines of this category. In addition, Silvercrest will excel in outstanding environmental performance.

The corporation representatives informed "RusBusinessNews" that Techspace Aero offered VSMPO-Avisma to sign a contract of delivery of titanium and titanium products. VSMPO has a six-year experience in raw stock supplies to the Belgian company. In the long term, the corporation will be able to export rings and billets for rotating parts.

"We would like to have the corporation as our top-line supplier not only in "rough" forgings, but also in machine finished forgings, i.e. in almost finished parts, - said Joel Keser, General Purchasing Manager of Techspace Aero. - However, to do this, by 2012 VSMPO should upgrade its existing process facilities to be able to tool rotating parts".

Techspace Aero designs, develops and supplies modules, equipment and test cells for aircraft and space engines. The company works with the leading engine manufacturers (General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, and Snecma), participating in civil and military projects.
