CHELYABINSK REGION.

JSC Russian Copper Company has started work on their project to build the Mikheevsky mining and processing facility. Operations there are scheduled to begin in late 2013.

The company's press office told RusBusinessNews that $650 million has been invested in the project. The Mikheevskoe porphyry copper ore deposit is one of the fifty largest copper deposits in the world. It contains 400 million tons of minable ore, including copper, gold, and silver.

An open-pit mine will be created at the mining and processing plant, capable of producing 18 million tons of green ore per year. A processing facility will also be built. In addition, there are plans to construct electricity and gas lines, auxiliary facilities, and administrative/amenity and residential complexes.

JSC Russian Copper Company plans to use the latest technology to mine and process ore. It has contracted with the Metso company (Finland-Sweden) and Outotec (Finland) for $220 million worth of equipment for the processing plant. Mining equipment will also be purchased for $102 million from the Komatsu company (Japan) and Atlas Corpo (Sweden).
