Uraltransmash will begin producing self-powered trams

In 2012, Ural Transport Machine-Building Plant, OJSC (Uraltransmash, part of Uralvagonzavod research and production corporation, OJSC) will begin mass production of battery-operated trams. The corporation's press office told RusBusinessNews that the trams will be equipped with lithium-ion batteries that should last for 13 years and over 600,000 kilometers.

Uraltransmash will also manufacture Russia's first trams with a low-floor design. An articulated tram car with a level floor at a height of 35 centimeters from the track can accommodate approximately 210 passengers.
