VSMPO-Avisma and Airbus Sign 4 Billion Dollar Contract

21.04.2009 — News

THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST.

The French aircraft manufacturer Airbus and VSMPO-Avisma Corporation (part of Rostechnologii - Russian Technologies State Corporation) signed the 4 billion dollar contract to supply rolled titanium for the European planes for the next 11 years on 20 April 2009. The contract envisages the production of rolled sheets and bars of titanium alloys, stampings, as well as processing of titanium parts by the Urals corporation's plants.

Tom Enders, the President and CEO of the French aerospace giant said in his statement that this agreement is not the end point of cooperation between the EADS (the only Airbus shareholder) and Rostechnologii. "We have far reaching plans - with our strategic partners in Avisma and with partners in the Russian industry as a whole in aircraft construction", Mr. Enders pointed out.

According to the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin the new contract means that VSMPO-Avisma will meet 60% of Airbus's demand for titanium. At present VSMPO-Avisma exports about 70%of its products. Airbus will be consuming 15%-25% of the Urals corporation's output.

RusBusinessNews was informed by the corporation that a joint venture of VSMPO-Avisma and the US aircraft maker corporation Boeing will be put in operation in the Sverdlovsk oblast in July 2009. The Ural Boeing Manufacturing will be involved in the finishing treatment of titanium parts for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner; the parts will then be shipped to the Seattle plant.
