SVERDLOVSK REGION

Mechanical engineering firms in the Sverdlovsk region provided consumers with 231 billion rubles' worth of products in the first ten months of 2012. This is a 23% increase compared to the same period last year.

The region's government told RusBusinessNews that this growth was facilitated by the introduction of new facilities as well as equipment upgrades. In 2012, investments to meet these goals will exceed 15 billion rubles. The most ambitious programs are underway at Uralmashzavod, OJSC, the Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation, OJSC, and Ural Turbine Works, CJSC.

Uralmashzavod, OJSC is setting up a new metallurgical plant that will double the company's capacity to manufacture forged and cast materials - up to 150,000 tons per year. Uralvagonzavod will invest 103 billion rubles in its development by 2015. Ural Turbine Works is also carrying out a modernization program between 2011-2013, at a cost of 800 million rubles.
