SVERDLOVSK REGION

Two countries that are among the best programmers in the world - Russia and China - will compete on May 1, 2013 in Ekaterinburg. Each country will be represented by five universities.

On the Russian side, Moscow and St. Petersburg will send two colleges apiece, and Ural Federal University will also compete. The University of Warsaw will compile a set of problems for this "IT battle."

The government of the Sverdlovsk region told RusBusinessNews that this event will prepare Ekaterinburg for more ambitious affairs in the future. The Russian city has applied to host the ICPC in 2016 or 2017. The other contenders are Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Phuket (Thailand), and Kochi (India). A final decision will be made in May 2013.

International events often take place in the capital of the Sverdlovsk region, including SCO and BRIC meetings and the Russian-German summit. Some of the matches for the FIFA 2018 World Cup will be held in Ekaterinburg, and this major city is also competing to host the World Expo 2020.
