VSMPO-AVISMA and Airbus to develop titanium alloys

11.09.2013 — News

MOSCOW.

The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, OJSC and Airbus have signed a memorandum of understanding as part of the MAKS 2013 air show.

The corporation's press office told RusBusinessNews that under the agreement, the companies will work together to jointly develop new titanium alloys. The requisite working group has been formed.

The parties have agreed to bring in Aerospace Dynamics Inc. - a machining company well-known throughout the world - to develop high-value-added production at VSMPO. The creation of a joint venture has not been ruled out.

In addition, certification has begun at VSMPO-AVISMA for the production of titanium tubes for aircraft, in order to further expand the range of products supplied by Airbus.

The companies will also explore the possibility of returning the titanium scrap produced by Airbus's businesses and subcontractors to VSMPO-AVISMA for reprocessing.
