VSMPO-AVISMA supplies medical titanium to Johnson & Johnson and Biomet

The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation is actively expanding production of medical titanium.

As RusBusinessNews has been informed by Oleg Leder, Deputy General Director for Marketing and Sales, the world market for titanium for medical application is steadily growing at an annual rate of 4-8%. At present, it accounts for about 4 thousand tons of titanium, out of which VSMPO supplies approximately 25%.

The Corporation has been operating on the market for medical titanium only for 4 years. Under long-term agreements, products are supplied to Johnson & Johnson, Biomet, Synthes, Orchid, Stealth, Zimmer, and DePuy.

"The requirements for certification of medical titanium are strict in terms of purity of the material, though they do not require such unique characteristics as titanium for manufacturing of aircraft engines," Mr. Leder noted.
