The Tyumen Region Is Going to Make Money on Sturgeons

11.06.2009 — News

THE TYUMEN OBLAST.

The Tyumen oblast annually supplies the market with 5-6 tones of fish. Provided that the regional lakes are used efficiently this volume could be increased twofold.

Out of 200 hectares of the Tyumen lakes one third is suitable for fish farming and has large fodder resources. Abalak Experimental Fish Farming Plant can annually provide the local businesses with 2.6 million juvenile fishes, namely sturgeon and sterlet.

The Tyumen government representatives informed RusBusinessNews that some 761 more tones of fish could be supplied to the regional fish market. Taking the average price per kilogram of 1.57 euro this unoccupied market niche is estimated at 1.2 million euro. Considering the demand for fresh fish in the neighbouring Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk and Omsk oblasts fish farms can gain up to 5.7 million euro annually. That is why the regional authorities plan to attract new investors to the region.
