Bankers Publish the ‘Trouble’ Jobs List

31.03.2009 — News

THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST.

The Sverdlovsk Oblast banks made a list of borrowers' jobs. Many banks have lists of ‘desirable' and ‘undesirable' spheres of occupation, RusBusinessNews found out. Those working in food retail and wholesale companies and food production industry can get loans the easiest. Teachers, doctors, police officers, and employees of public prosecution offices whose wages are paid by the state have high chances of getting a loan. The ‘white list' includes workers of motor transport companies, railways, airlines, and cellular communications companies. Metallurgists, builders, realtors, and insurers hit the ‘trouble' list. Those employed by tour operators and car dealerships would also have difficulties getting a loan. This leads to the conclusion that banks are most reluctant to offer loans to employees of industries hit hardest by the financial crisis. Many banks increased their annual interest rate to 20-25% which in fact, together with the bank fees, amounts to 30%. Interest rates this high seriously increase the risk of loan payment defaults.
