Two Sverdlovsk school students have made it to the semifinals of the All-Russian TV Olympiad Clever and Wise. This is the first time representatives of the region have participated in the well-known educational project. Host Yuri Vyazemsky and the event's organizers noted the excellent preparation by the participants for the new season, RusBusinessNews informs.

The Ostankino television center in Moscow played host to the filming of the quarterfinal games of the Olympiad from November 16-18, with six finalists from the Urals taking part in the Clever and Wise program. Kirill Epishenkov from Ekaterinburg and Matvey Chigintsev from Kamensk-Uralsky reached the semifinals by answering all of the questions correctly. Vladislava Agafonova (Novouralsk), Danil Shirokovskikh (Polevskoy), Kristina Yaroslavtseva (Polevskoy), and Nadezhda Zorina (Ekaterinburg) also competed to take home the win.

Broadcasts with the young Sverdlovsk residents will be released on Channel One in January-February 2024. The semifinalists will now move on to filming of the next round. Winning the Clever and Wise TV Olympiad will secure entrance exam-free admission to MGIMO for the school students. A special scholarship is provided for participants from the Sverdlovsk Region – 50,000 rubles a month from Mikhail Shelkov's Empathy Charitable Foundation. Shelkov is a shareholder of VSMPO-AVISMA.

"I was worried only at the very beginning, when it was not yet clear how everything would turn out. I was totally unafraid when I performed in the agon in front of Yuri Pavlovich and the supreme council (Areopagus). A sort of light and cozy atmosphere was created that only helped in answering the questions correctly," said new semifinalist Matvey Chigintsev, sharing his impressions of the game.

"When you get into the feel of the game, the excitement, you stop worrying," said other semifinalist Kirill Epishenkov, "the only thing that remains is the desire to raise your hand and give the right answer. I answered questions about the Russian Arctic on the red carpet then went to the next stage without making a single mistake. I received another order and a medal for the answers from the rostrum."

Vladislava Agafonova said that she gained not only knowledge and experience, but also new friends: "For me, the most pleasant thing was the opportunity to communicate with my peers from other regions and get closer – it's really rarely possible to do so. Such smart, beautiful, and excellent guys from different parts of our huge country, with names that are unusual for me. We talked to one another about our national cuisine, traditions, studies, and just about life. It was hard parting ways, almost to the point of tears."

The All-Russian TV Olympiad Clever and Wise has been broadcast on Channel One since 1992. The winners of the project obtain benefits in the event of free admission to MGIMO. Regional qualifying rounds are held in more than 20 constituent entities across Russia.
