Yamal is Getting Ready for Construction of Strategic Mainline

The Salekhard-Nadym railway construction will begin in 2010 in Yamal, the line will become a part of the transport infrastructure of the Industrial Urals - Polar Urals project. Partially it will recreate the road built by the Stalin camps prisoners in the forties and fifties of the last century.

The subpolar transcontinental line, according to the USSR leaders was supposed to go from the Urals to Chukotka and connect Russia with America. A thousand kilometres of railway had been laid by 1954. The project stopped with Stalin's death.

The YaNAO Government informed RusBusinessNews that the new line 376 kilometres long will be completed in five years. The estimated cost of the project is 65.5 billion roubles.
