THE CHELYABINSK OBLAST.
An exotic business has been put up for sale in the Urals. Two ostrich farms are waiting to find a new owner.
The family run business has fallen apart in the two neighbouring regions, the Chelyabinsk and the Kurgan Oblasts. The small flocks of black African ostriches entertained tourists and supplied eggs to local food industry.
According to RusBusinessNews experts ostrich farming becomes profitable in 5-7 years' time if the farm has 14 families (42 birds). Birds have to be brought in from different farms and, preferably, from countries where there is a high proportion of good pedigree stock, for instance from Sweden or Poland. For example, the profits of the Urals Ostrich company which keeps about 600 birds amount to 120%.
