Five New Fields Discovered In Yamal In 2009

12.01.2010 — News

YaNAO.

In 2009 five new hydrocarbon fields have been discovered in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Severo-Yubileynoye oil and gas condensate field, Zapadno-Yubileynoye, Severo-Yamsoveyskoe, Yuzhno-Padinskoye, and Zapadno-Tazovskoye oil fields have been added to the list of explored reserves.

The regional Government informed RusBusinessNews that in 2009 33 companies have been involved in exploration on 82 licensing plots. The amount of prospecting, assessment, and exploration drilling in the Okrug has exceeded 101 thousand linear metres. The Yamal and Gydan Peninsulas and the adjacent areas of the Kara Sea have the best future for the exploration for oil and gas reserves.

According to the experts' estimates at the moment there are about 220 hydrocarbon fields in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. 70% of Russia's proven reserves of gas are located in Yamal.

The production of gas is carried out by subsidiaries of GAZPROM, whose indicators for January-November 2009 amounted to 381.2 billion cubic metres of gas (88.3% of all gas produced in the Okrug). The remaining volumes are produced by OAO "NOVATEK", CJSC "Rospan International" and OJSC "Rosneft" Oil Company".
