June SCO Summit Will Attract Investors to Ekaterinburg

The meeting of Heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Ekaterinburg on 15-16 June 2009 will be an international scene debut for the capital of the Sverdlovsk Oblast. With the eexception of the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Gerhard Schroeder in the autumn 2003, this high-profile event will be a first for Ekaterinburg.

The city authorities hope that the June summit will draw potential investors' attention to Ekaterinburg. Since the beginning of 2009 dozens of delegations from European and Asian countries, including Hungary, France, the Czech Republic, China, and Japan, have visited Ekaterinburg. According to experts, Ekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk Oblast have chances to attract investors to the industrial sector which the foreigners closely associate with the might of Russian military industrial complex.
