In January-March 2009, the Sverdlovsk Railway (a branch of the OAO Russian Railways) has transported 22.29 million tons of various cargo; thus, the first quarter target has been exceeded by 1.3%. As the Sverdlovsk Railway press service told RusBusinessNews, the transportation volumes have been growing every month. In particular, the Ekaterinburg branch of the OAO First Cargo Company has dispatched 22 thousand railway cars in March, which is a 25% increase as compared to the February volumes.

In March 2009 as compared to March 2008, shipment of black coal has increased by 15.4 thousand tons (+18%), petroleum products - by 41.7 thousand tons (+2%), metal structures - by 575 tons (+4.5%).

The total Sverdlovsk Railway cargo transportation volumes in March 2009 amounted to 8,988 thousand tons. Vladimir Chernykh, the Director of the Ekaterinburg Branch of the OAO First Cargo Company, stated that the April transportation plans were adjusted towards a further increase.
