THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST.

In July 2009, a joint venture between Boeing, an American aircraft engineering corporation, and VSMPO-Avisma, the world's largest titanium producer, will start production. The Ural Boeing Manufacturing (UBM) will be involved in the finishing treatment of titanium parts for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner; the parts will then be shipped from Verkhnyaya Salda to the Seattle plant.

It is planned to time the start-up of the production so it coincides with the first visit of Barack Obama, the US President, to Russia. The installation of the equipment required in the production facilities of UBM has to be completed by July.

The VSMPO-Avisma Corporation exports 70% of its titanium products. The company is the key supplier of titanium to Airbus Industrie and the second largest supplier to Boeing.
