Germany postponed the construction of its "German House" in Ekaterinburg

29.10.2010 — News

SVERDLOVSK REGION.

German authorities have decided to postpone the construction of the Consulate General building planned in Ekaterinburg for a few years. However, they will reserve the site allotted for them in the "consular" district of the Ural capital.

Consul General Renate Schimcoreit informed "RusBusinessNews" that the decision was taken just a few days before the presentation of a new building design. The building was meant to become an example of modern German architecture and demonstrate opportunities offered by advanced building materials.

The diplomats' plans were upset by the economic crisis. Chances are that the construction will start in 4-5 years. The German Consulate will still be renting three floors in the World Trade Center in Ekaterinburg where it has been residing since 2005.

As of today, only China's authorities intend to confirm their willingness to build their own premises in the Ekaterinburg "consular" district. Some time ago, the Czech Republic also abandoned its construction plans. The Chinese diplomats may even be allowed to add the lot designated to their Czech colleagues.
