The names of the finalists in the regional selection for the Clever and Wise (Umnitsy I Umniki) TV Olympiad were announced in the Sverdlovsk region. The websites of Mikhail Shelkov's Empathy Charitable Foundation and the Golden Section Foundation both have lists of tenth-graders who completed the task of the absentee phase.

At the famed All-Russian Olympiad in the Urals, 70 schoolchildren from Sverdlovsk competed in the first qualifying round. They were required to produce an essay on one of the five topics related to the Urals during the absentee phase. As RusBusinessNews has been informed by the Empathy Charitable Foundation's Press Service, a panel of experts chose 30 works whose writers advanced to the final round of the regional selection.

The in-person final stage will take place in May, following the format of the Clever and Wise All-Russian TV Olympiad having semifinal and final agons, insignias, with agonists and theorists. Nine of the 30 finalists will advance to the agons, while the rest will respond from the floor as theorists. Saltanat Ermukhambetova, an MGIMO student and the winner of the Clever and Wise TV Olympiad will help them in advancing for it.

The three participants of the second stage will be the Olympiad's winners in the Sverdlovsk region: agonists, who show the best results in the final round (agon), and theorists, who score the most points (insignias). They will compete in the Clever and Wise television humanitarian Olympiad for schoolchildren in Moscow without having to take any additional tests, and they will each receive 100,000 rubles from the Mikhail Shelkov's Foundation. In addition, the winners will receive free travel to the shoot in Moscow. The students of the Sverdlovsk region, who enter MGIMO after the Olympiad, will receive a special scholarship of 50,000 roubles a month from the Empathy Foundation.

The Olympiad in the Sverdlovsk region is organized by the Ministry of Education and Youth Policy of the Sverdlovsk region, Mikhail Shelkov's Empathy Charitable Foundation and the Golden Section Foundation for Support of Gifted Children and Youth. The project is supported by the Ural Institute of Management — branch of Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (UIU RANEPA), the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin, the Liberal Arts University (Ekaterinburg), the Ural State Pedagogical University, the Institute for Development of Education of the Sverdlovsk region, and Youth Palace Center for Supplementary Education of the Sverdlovsk region.

The Olympiad has become a successful example of effective cooperation between the local educational system and a private foundation, emphasizing the mutual interest of the general public, business community, and the government to support the teaching community, particularly during the Year of Teachers and Mentors in Russia.
