Kazakhstan might purchase redesigned T-90AM tanks from Uralvagonzavod

The government of the Republic of Kazakhstan is considering the purchase of a shipment of redesigned T-90AM tanks from the Uralvagonzavod research and production corporation. A delegation from that country visited the Russian Expo Arms - 2011 exhibition, which opened Sept. 8 in Nizhny Tagil, in order to evaluate the tank's operation and combat qualities.

Talgat Zhanzhumenov, Kazakhstan's deputy minister of defense, told a correspondent from RusBusinessNews that Astana is interested in developing a partnership with Uralvagonzavod. "We have already purchased several promising pieces of equipment from the holding company, including a tank support fighting vehicle, and we would like to buy another shipment of them. We are also interested in the T-90AM", he added.

The redesigned T-90AM tank is equipped with a more powerful engine, a new gun, and a remote-controlled machine-gun mount. It also has an automated fire-control system that facilitates the search for targets. The dynamic defense of the fifth generation Relikt protects the tank's turret and body from even state-of-the-art anti-tank missiles and rockets.
