Governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast Went to Finland in Search for Investment

THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST.

On 20 April 2009 Eduard Rossel, the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, arrived in Finland as a member of the Russian Government delegation headed by the President Dmitry Medvedev. During his 2-day visit the Head of the region will present several investment projects in metallurgy, transportation logistics, machine building, and timber processing to businessmen in Finland.

The Sverdlovsk Oblast Government informed RusBusinessNews, a hi-tech industrial cluster project the Titanium Valley based on a VSMPO-Avisma Corporation plant, the construction of the OAO Russian Magnesium plant, and the renovation of the Seversky Tube Works will be presented in Suomi. Eduard Rossel and his Finnish counterparts will discuss the cooperation opportunities of railway car building at OAO NPK Uralvagonzavod (Ural Railway Car Plant) and production of machines for public services at OAO Automobiles and Motors of the Urals.

Moreover, the discussions over the Verkhoturye Refinery construction project requiring a 2.1 billion Euro investment and Ekaterinburg Koltsovo airport development will be continued; these discussions began during the Finnish business delegation visit to the Urals on 1-2 April 2009. The airport has been listed as one of the Russian hubs and is being actively developed as an international air junction. In autumn 2008, FinnAir started running Helsinki - Yekaterinburg - Helsinki flights. Eduard Rossel will propose the air carrier's management team to consider routing their transit flights from Finnland to South-East Asia via Koltsovo.

Finland is one of the top twenty foreign business partners of the Sverdlovsk Oblast. In 2008, the region's foreign trade turnover with Suomi amounted to 134 billion US dollars.
