THE TYUMEN OBLAST.
The RF State Duma deputies have truly appreciated hand-made carpets from OOO Sibirskya Kovrovaya Fabrika (Siberian Carpet Factory). The exhibits of the Ishim carpets exhibition which took place in the Russian parliament have all been sold out despite the high prices.
The Ishim factory makes carpets using a unique terry technology for which there is no equivalent in the world. This method of making carpets on horizontal looms is almost exactly the same as was used when carpets were made at people's homes. The tradition of operating such looms goes back to XVII-XVIII centuries when the so-called sleigh carpets were made.
The major suppliers of carpets to Russia - China, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan - specialize in high density carpets made on vertical looms using a shag-pile technique. What makes Ishim carpets stand out is that they are fluffy and very soft.
Factory officials informed RusBusinessNews that their annual production capacity amounts to 1500 square metres of carpets. Major buyers of the expensive products live far from Siberia. A significant proportion of carpets is sold via the Internet.
