Leaders of SCO Countries Will Sign the Ekaterinburg Declaration on 16 June

THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST.

In the evening of 14 June 2009 Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China, has arrived in Ekaterinburg. He will take part in the two-day summit of the heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states and the first meeting of the leaders of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China).

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev will receive him as well as the heads of nine more states in the Urals. Sergei Prihodko, Russian President's foreign policy advisor, said that the key political document that is to be signed during the Summit on 16 June would be the Ekateriburg Declaration which evaluates the current international situation, notes the irreversible trend towards the actual multi-polarity and the enhanced significance of the regional aspect in the solution of global challenges.

A full-scale meeting of the heads of BRIC on 16 June, which will be attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will be dedicated to the interaction in overcoming the consequences of the global financial crisis and the issues of reforming the international financial institutions.

According to Mr Prikhodko, the leaders of the BRIC countries will adopt a joint statement following the results of the Ekaterinburg meeting; the statement will reflect the common vision of the current stage of the global development, the outlook for the international cooperation in the interest of overcoming global challenges, and strengthening the international stability and security. It is also planned to adopt a ministerial statement of the global food security, as a contribution of the BRIC countries in the international discussion on this subject.
