The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Has No Doubts about Mr Ahmadinejad’s Victory in the Presidential Elections

The Russian authorities are sure about the irreversible victory of Mahmud Ahmadinejad in the Iranian presidential elections. This is a conclusion that can ensue from what Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, said.

At the press conference in Ekaterinburg on 16 June he said that "it was quite symbolic that Mr Ahmadinejad's first visit as a re-elected president was to Russia". He added that it was a foundation for an incremental development of the Russian-Iranian relations.

The Iranian president arrived in Ekaterinburg on 16 June to participate in the second day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and meet with Dmitry Medvedev. He had to delay his visit for one day because of the massive opposition protests in Teheran.
