SVERDLOVSK REGION

The Summer Space School was held in Moscow with the support of Roscosmos State Corporation. This year, Mikhail Shelkov's Empathy Charitable Foundation was among its partners.

Empathy's press service told RusBusinessNews that the event has been held by a team of enthusiasts since 2015. In 2022, the Empathy Charitable Foundation helped the youngest space explorers – eighth-graders from the Sverdlovsk Region – learn the secrets of the universe from the main rocket and space industry experts.

From August 6 to 14, more than 80 lectures by representatives of the rocket and space industry were held at the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, including presentations by cosmonauts, radio communication session with the International Space Station, and teleconference with the Vostochny cosmodrome. At the end of the School, the participants became crew members of the interplanetary expedition to Mars by simulating the flight of the Korolev spacecraft.

In particular, Vladimir Surdin, famous astronomer and science popularizer; Yusef Hesuani, co-founder and managing partner of 3D Bioprinting Solutions; Yuri Atkov, cosmonaut, RAS academician, and many others spoke to the schoolchildren. The pupils also visited Energia Rocket and Space Corporation, the Cosmonaut Training Center, Energomash Research and Production Association, the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, Lavochkin Research and Production Association and the Aviation and Cosmonautics Center at VDNH (Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy), and had a chance to fly light airplanes.

In total, more than 120 schoolchildren, students and adults took part in the educational project for space lovers.

"We have been holding the annual Summer Space School for seven years already. Each year we not only add new activities and sections, but also completely change the plot. In 2022, for example, we flew to Mars, next year it will be even more interesting. Registration of the Summer Space School 2023 is expected to start in May, and we want to attract more space lovers from all over Russia", – said Tatyana Miteva, the school principal.
