On February 1, the selection for the first regional stage of the Clever and Wise well-known Russian nation-wide TV Olympiad for senior pupils (Russian: Umnitsy i Umniki) will begin in the Sverdlovsk region. 10th grade pupils of secondary schools can apply on the Golden Section Foundation's website (ereg.zsfond.ru), RusBusinessNews reports.
On February 18, the first absentee phase of the Olympiad will take place in the schools of the Middle Urals in the form of an essay on a proposed topic. All municipalities will allocate separate sites, the list of which will be available in advance on the website of the Empathy Charitable Foundation created by Mikhail Shelkov, a shareholder of VSMPO-AVISMA (empathy-foundation.ru), and on the websites of the competition's co-organizers. Golden Section Foundation will also provide sites at 5, Yasnaya Street, Ekaterinburg, said the press service of the Empathy Foundation.
Lists of those who have successfully completed the entrance task will be announced on March 10. In April–May, the tenth-graders will be invited to Ekaterinburg for the second, i.e. final live phase. The finals will be held in a format based on the rules of the All-Russian Television Olympiad: with semi-final and final agons, insignias, agonists, and theorists. Yuri Vyazemsky, the author and permanent host of the Clever and Wise TV show will be evaluating the participants.
The three participants of the second stage will become the winners of the Olympiad: the agonists – the winners of the final agon and the theorists who have achieved the highest score (insignias). They will be granted the right to participate in the Clever and Wise TV Humanities Olympiad for Schoolchildren in Moscow without any additional tests.
The winners of the regional selection will each receive 100 thousand rubles from the Mikhail Shelkov's Foundation and will travel to Moscow to film for free. The young people from the Sverdlovsk region who manage to enter the Moscow State Institute of International Relations based on the results of the Olympiad will receive a special monthly scholarship of 50 thousand rubles.
Organisers of the Olympiad in the Sverdlovsk region are the region's Ministry of Education and Youth Policy, Mikhail Shelkov's Empathy Charitable Foundation, and the Golden Section Foundation for the Support of Talented Children and Youth. The project is also supported by leading educational institutions of the region – the Ural Institute of Management – Branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the Ural Federal University named after B.N.
