Ugra Needs a 1.5-fold Increase in Power Generation

24.06.2009 — News

UGRA.

In the nearest future the Ugra oil industry sector will have to increase high-performance field development twofold. Moreover, regional energy companies will need to ensure a 1.5-fold increase in their generating capacities.

The regional Government representatives told RusBusinessNews that oil companies increase energy consumption because the old fields' performance deteriorates, whilst the recovery from new fields is yet to be enhanced. The Autonomous Okrug authorities demand that investors commission power generating plants on schedule.

The electric power generation plan for Ugra has only been fulfilled by 12% so far. Meanwhile, it is not only the oil industry that calls for more reliable power supply but the developing industries as well - such as oil and gas chemistry and pulp processing.

Alexandr Filipenko, Governor of Ugra, has stated that the economic situation in the Ugra's industry has stabilised by the end of the first six months, and the index of production has only seen a slight decrease of 1% as compared with 2008, which is much less than in other Russian regions.
