26.06.2009 — News

THE SVERDLOVSK OBLAST.

Rosatom's scientific and technical council has approved the construction of BN-1200 power unit at Beloyarsk NPP. Director General of Beloyarsk NPP told RusBusinessNews that the construction of the fifth power unit is planned to begin in 2020.

The BN-900 power unit, which is currently under construction, most probably will be commissioned in 2014 instead of 2012. This is due to delays in equipment deliveries. However, the construction process is running behind the schedule only slightly.

The total cost of BN-900 construction project funded by OAO Concern Energoatom is estimated at 64 billion roubles. About 13 billion roubles will be provided for the project implementation in 2009.

The design service life of BN-600, the only currently operating power unit at the Beloyarsk NPP, expires on 6 April 2010. It has recently been extended by another 15 years. After the BN-600 power unit was upgraded, its capacity reached 616 megawatt. After the commissioning of the BN-900 unit, the total rated capacity of the Beloyarsk NPP will exceed 1500 megawatt.
