SELEX Galileo Will Purchase Urals Optical- Electronic Systems

FGUP PO "Urals Optical and Mechanical Plant" and SELEX Galileo, an Italian manufacturer of dual purpose electronic systems, are to sign a contract at the IX International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS in August 2009.

The Urals plant informed RusBusinessNews that the framework agreement with the Italian company was signed during the recent Paris Air Show in Le Bourget. The agreement stipulates the delivery of gyrostabilized optical-electronic systems to SELEX Galileo. The value of the contract and the purpose of the systems are currently unknown.

The gyrostabilized optical-electronic systems employ high resolution devices such as thermal imager, day-and-night TV cameras, laser range finder and other observation devices. They are extensively applied in air force and navy.

The systems are mounted onto civilian helicopters or blimps and serve to expand the capability for protecting potentially hazardous facilities, airports, nuclear power plants, fire monitoring, and search-and-rescue operations.

SELEX Galileo is focused on the production of security and protection systems, air radars, electronic and electro-optical systems, military lasers, and other equipment.
