Yuri Vyazemsky, the author of the Clever and Wise TV Olympiad, got impressed by VSMPO-AVISMA’s capabilities![]() 25.04.2025 — News
SVERDLOVSK REGION
Writer, philosopher, and long-time host of the Clever and Wise intellectual TV program, Yuri Vyazemsky, visited the VSMPO-AVISMA production site in Verkhnyaya Salda. His visit came on the eve of the regional selection round for the Olympiad, now organised for the third consecutive year in Ekaterinburg by the Empathy Foundation, a charitable organisation founded by Mikhail Shelkov, VSMPO-AVISMA's shareholder, RusBusinessNews reports.
![]() During his visit, Vyazemsky toured the museum and exhibition complex as well as the corporation’s key workshops: the forging shop, home to the world's most powerful vertical hydraulic press with a force of 75,000 tonnes, and the machining shop for stamped parts. He spoke with the factory workers about promoting industrial professions, the role of science and education, and the interests of the younger generation. As a special gift, VSMPO-AVISMA's CEO Dmitry Trifonov presented Vyazemsky with a medal made of aerospace-grade titanium alloy. ![]()
“When I teach anthropology, I tell my students about the great Gods who existed before the Olympians – the Titans. When I teach literature, I speak to young people about my theory of the World Literature Titans. And now, I find myself in a place where true Titans live. These incredible people are able to master colossal machines and presses, bending them to their will to produce equipment for smooth take-offs and soft landings. We are not gods – they are the Gods," said Yuri Vyazemsky.
Vyazemsky also took part as a guest speaker at an Empathy Foundation event, meeting with high school students – winners of academic competitions and medallists – as well as teachers of history, Russian language, and literature, and the heads of educational institutions from Verkhnyaya Salda and Nizhnyaya Salda. Over 500 participants discussed education and the importance of taking part in the Clever and Wise Federal TV Olympiad with the renowned promoter of the humanities.
![]() Young people from the Sverdlovsk Region already have inspiring role models: for instance, Kirill Epishenkov, a participant in the first Urals season, went on to become a student at MGIMO University after winning both the regional and national finals. The Empathy Foundation covers the winners’ travel expenses to Moscow to take part in the filming of the federal stage of the Olympiad, awards grants of up to 100,000 rubles, and provides monthly scholarships during their first year of university studies. |
