Russian Government Will Help Regions Develop Meet Farming

In 2009 subjects of the Russian Federation will receive 3 billion roubles for the implementation of regional beef production programs. The Russian Deputy Prime Minister said that the Government will allocate 4.5 billion roubles for the support of meet farming programme as a whole this year.

Over the last 10 years the number of cattle raised for meet dropped 3 times, beef production - 2.5 times, consumption of beef has halved.

The Government of the Sverdlovsk Oblast informed RusBusinessNews that more than 2 billion roubles will be spent on the development of cattle farming in the region in 2009; half of this money will come from the federal budget. In the January to June period of this year the meet production in the Oblast has grown by 6% compared to the same period of 2008.
