SVERDLOVSK REGION

Verkhnyaya Salda hosted the Science Week, the Sverdlovsk Region's flagship scientific event for schoolchildren, from February 3 to 7. A series of academic Olympiads in Robotics, Technical Drawing, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, and Mathematics, along with a Scientific and Practical Conference (SPC), brought together 1,200 participants from grades 2 to 11 and university students. Attendees hailed from Nizhnyaya Salda, Verkhnyaya Salda, Nizhny Tagil, and neighboring communities.

The Olympiad in Robotics comprised a written test as well as robot model assembly and programming. Meanwhile, the competitions in Physics and Chemistry included noteworthy questions about titanium, the signature material of the VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, a major supplier of the "winged metal" for civil aviation and Science Week organizer. At the Scientific and Practical Conference, schoolchildren presented their most ambitious ideas across several tracks, including Natural Science and Career Guidance.

It was the Olympiad in Mathematics that saw the highest turnout, with 444 participants seeking solutions to its challenging tasks, the organizers reported to RusBusinessNews.

Now in its fourth consecutive year, the Science Week project in Verkhnyaya Salda continues to grow in scale.

"This is not my first time here, in Verkhnyaya Salda. I really liked the tasks; they were creative but manageable because I have a lot of competition experience and have often placed as a winner. I love Robotics because of its immense creative potential and the constant opportunity for self-improvement," shared Mikhail Bundin from Nizhny Tagil.

Beyond the intellectual trials, the Science Week featured a drawing contest and engaging workshops. At the closing ceremony on February 7, the winners and runners-up were awarded honorary diplomas and memorable gifts from the organizers – the VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation and Mikhail Shelkov's (shareholder of the company) Empathy Charitable Foundation.
