Norilsk Nickel Will Get New Drilling Rig

JSC Kyshtym machine-building factory will weaken positions of foreign makers of mining equipment in the Russian market. The company made a drilling rig unique for Russia which was ordered by OJSC Norilsk Nickel’s.

The company informed RusBusinessNews that the underground caterpillar unit UBS-150 is designed for the drilling of initial and technological shafts as deep as 150 metres. The quality and reliability of the machine is similar to that of the Finnish Sandvik Tamrock and the Swedish Atlas Copco but the cost is 3-3.5 times lower.

Norilsk Nickel will start the test runs in the nearest future. The production cost of the UBS-150 prototype amounted to 9 million roubles, when the batch production begins the cost will be driven down to 6-7 million roubles. JSC Kyshtym machine-building factory is planning to make 5 to 6 of these machines annually.

UBS-150 will broaden the export product line. At the moment the company ships equipment to Slovakia, Poland, India, DPRK, Viet Nam, Egypt, Algeria, and CIS countries.
