IRTC "Eye Microsurgery" is Getting Ready for Its Five Millionth Operation

On 1 October 2009 doctors of the main branch of the Intersectoral Research and Technology Complex "Eye Microsurgery" named after the academician S. N. Fyodorov are going to perform their five millionth operation. This will demonstrate the achievements of the Russian ophthalmosurgery. 

During the operation a short-sighted patient will be treated with the femtosecond laser - the only one of its kind in Russia. The effect will be seen immediately: after the operation the patient will read the special chart without glasses. The operation will be shown on-line in 11 branches of the Eye Microsurgery.

IRTC Eye Surgery informed RusBusinessNews that the operation will be preceded by a symbolic relay race, which is to start on October 1 in the city of Khabarovsk. In all of the 11 branches operations will be performed to show the state-of-the-art technologies used to treat ophthalmic diseases. Eye surgeons in a number of Russian cities will watch these operations on-line.

IRTC "Eye Microsurgery" named after the academician S. N. Fyodorov was founded on 24 April 1986. Over 5000 doctors are currently working in its head institute in Moscow and its 11 branches.
