NOVATEK Will Begin Building New Railway Line In Yamal

22.10.2009 — News

YaNAO.

NOVATEK will be a key investor in the construction of an important railway line in Yamal. It is planned to build a 354 kilometre road between Salekhard and Nadym by 2015.

In October 2009 Rosexpertisa gave a positive appraisal to the project valued at 61 billion roubles. The road will connect the northern part of the railway network of the Eastern Siberia (Nadym station) with the Northern Railway (Obskaya station). The main cargo for the railway will be the gas condensate from fields in the Western Siberia. This is why private investors, NOVATEK, presumably, will cover 80% of construction costs.

YaNAO government informed RusBusinessNews that the line is a part of the investment megaproject the Industrial Urals - Polar Urals. This is split into 7 commission pieces roughly equal in cost. The work is planned to start in the late 2009 - early 2010 from the end points - Salekhard and Nadym.

In 2010 the 572 kilometre long Obskaya-Bovanenkovo line will be commissioned in Yamal. Gazprom OJSC has spent 130 billion roubles in its construction. The line is built to enable the development of the unique Bovanenkovo oil and gas condensate field.
