10.11.2009 — News
Air carriers in the Urals Federal District which have the right to fly to Europe have submitted to the EU representatives the fuel consumption monitoring plan. For Ural Airlines, UTair, and Yamal this is the first stage of work on the greenhouse gas emissions quota programme.
During 2010 air carriers will monitor the consumption of the aviation kerosene. On the basis of the presented data they will be given a free quota for greenhouse gas emissions. From 1 January 2012 each air carrier flying in the European sky will receive the quota proportional to the amount of transportation they do. In the situation when a company exceeds this quota it will have to buy additional quantity at an open auction.
Vasiliy Kryuk, the Director General of Yamal, told RusBusinesNews that today the carrier runs services to Prague and Vilnius. In 2010 Yamal is planning to broaden the range of European destinations. UTair also pays a lot of attention to issues of environmental protection, the company is carrying out the necessary work for the preparation for new conditions of flights to European counties from 1 January 2012.
