Noyabrsk is located in the south of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. What makes this town different from all other towns and cities of Yamal is the fact that both the oil and the gas industries are developing successfully here.
Population: 110,000 people.

Historical reference

The prospecting and exploratory drilling first started in the Noyabrsk geological region in 1968. In 1975 geologists have discovered a large oil and gas field Kholmogorskoye. In 1981 the first five-storey apartment blocks were built, and by 1982 the population of Noyabrsk had already exceeded 25 thousand people thus qualifying it for the status of a town.

Economy

Noyabrsk has always been and still is the home ground for the hydrocarbons production for the two major companies of the city - Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz (a Gazpromneft subsidiary) and Gazprom dobycha Noyabrsk (a Gazprom subsidiary). Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz is the largest oil company in Yamal. It produces 6% of the total oil production of Russia. Gazprom dobycha Noyabrsk is one of the top three Gazprom subsidiaries. Its annual production volume is 85 billion cubic meters of gas. Over 1,000 other companies in the city are providing all kinds of services to the oil and gas industry and support the social infrastructure of the city.

Owing to its favourable geographic position Noyabrsk became to be known as the southern gate of the Okrug. The Tyumen - Novy Urengoy railway line and the highway going through the city connect the northern territories of the Yamal peninsula with the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, the Tyumen Oblast, and the rest of Russia.
The city has a modern airport capable of landing large aircraft. The convenient location made it attractive for the Russian airlines flying to cities, towns, and the rural communities of the Yamal-Nenents Autonomous Okrug.
