The Tyumen Oblast

The Tyumen Oblast is situated within the area of the West Siberian Plain. Along with significant natural resources the Oblast has a well established and diverse industrial structure.

The Oblast takes the lead amongst the regions of the Urals Federal District in terms of production of main types of agricultural products per capita and in housing construction.
The region is a part of the group of the subjects of the RF with the highest levels of the investment activity.
Today on the territory of the former Tyumen Oblast which was established 14 August 1944 there are two other Russian regions - the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra and the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. From 2004 they are tied together with the cooperation treaty that defines their interaction in the implementation of common programmes.

Tyumen is the administrative centre of the Oblast. The distance from Tyumen to Moscow is 2144 kilometres; the flight time is two and a half hours.
Total area: 161.8 thousand square kilometres (not counting the Autonomous Okrugs).
Population: 1.334 million people (not counting the Autonomous Okrugs).
